Paint removal has one law: the chemistry of the paint decides everything. Water-based emulsion caught wet rinses out; the same splash dried is a plastic film gripping the weave; and cured two-pack laughs at every product in the cupboard. Knowing which battle you're in saves the wasted hour.

The honest economics
The trade already knows this: painters' whites are bought expecting decoration — the splatter pattern is practically a CV — and the working economics favour rotation over rescue: enough sets that a paint-heavy day doesn't force a re-wear (the sets maths), removal effort spent only on the big misses, and retirement when stiffness, not stains, says so. A paint-loaded garment that's gone board-stiff has lost its flex and its comfort; that's the replacement signal.
Two cautions from the solvent step: white spirit and fabric softener share a failure mode — residues left in fabric — so post-solvent garments get a hot, thorough wash on their own; and solvent work near FR garments is a hard no — contamination compromises the protection, and FR kit with paint jobs goes through the employer's process, not the utility-room experiment.

Soak in warm soapy water to soften the film, then work it loose with a blunt edge and repeat — alcohol-based products help stubborn patches. Expect partial success: dried emulsion is a plastic film in the weave, and textured fabrics hold it hardest. Fresh emulsion, by contrast, rinses out almost completely.
Used sparingly and washed out properly, usually not — but it must be blotted from the fabric's reverse, used outdoors, and followed by a hot, thorough wash to remove residue. Never put a solvent-wet garment straight into a machine, and never use solvents on FR clothing.
Honestly, no — once catalysed it's a thermoset plastic bonded into the fibres, and anything aggressive enough to attack it destroys the fabric. Wipe splashes before they cure; after that, it's permanent and the garment's future is cosmetic.
When care can't bring a garment back to compliance, replace it — certified hi-vis and weatherproofs from stock, with embroidery for teams.
