The local economy
The trawlers mostly went; the fish didn't. The detail that matters
Food-side kit lives under hygiene audit: garments in light colours that show contamination, laundered hot on rotation, no external pockets above the waist on many lines (nothing can fall into product), metal-detectable accessories in some plants, and footwear that survives daily chemical washdown — which is why S4 wellingtons and S2 washable shoes dominate over leather boots. It's a wardrobe specified by the audit checklist as much as the job.
Out on the wind farms the problem inverts: nothing about a turbine transfer is washable-white, and the kit is a layering system — wicking base, insulating mid, weatherproof shell — where the employer issues the survival and transfer equipment and the working layers underneath are where crews feel quality (or its absence) all shift.
